How To Be D*mn GOOD In Everything You Do In Life!

What if I tell you when I first started out speaking in public – I was actually very terrible. In fact, I have stage fright.

Fast forward to today, I have gained enough confidence to speak in front of thousands of people. But the correct question is to ask – “how?”

How did I manage to get from there to here? From being afraid to speak to one person, to now sharing a stage with international speakers?

It is hard to believe what you were, when people are only seeing what you are now

There is conventional wisdom that to get good at something, you need at least 10,000 hours of practice.

Fortunately, that is not true. You can get very good, very fast. In fact, the average is not more than 24 hours.

But how?

Follow these 4 steps:-

Be Sure of What You Want

Before you start pursuing a goal, perhaps you should take a step back and ask “what my goal is?”

Make it as specific as possible – like helping 10,000 clients with copywriting in a year, or help interior design 10,000 houses in a year.

Have a clear goal, then go after like an arrow!

The more well-defined and clear your goals are – the more quick and efficient you can be in achieving that goal.

Break Down the Skills

Each skill that you want to learn is basically made up of many smaller skills.

Take public speaking for example – the introduction, the middle part, the closing, how to read audience emotion, how to get their attention, how to throw a joke if you sense they are drifting off – these are all smaller skills.

Now that you have broken down and visualise the smaller skill – learn the most important subskills first. Like perfecting the intro to catch audience attention within the first 3 minutes.

Research

Now that you have identified the most important sub-skill, do your research on it first.

Research on the skill you have broken down, the little sub-skills that matter – improvise on it, be d*mn good at it!

What is the best way to do your speech introduction? Read 10 books on it.

Important: Only read the part about doing a great intro and don’t get drifted off (read: procrastinate!)

You need to know these so that you can make the corrections as you progress further later.

The Actual Practice

Now comes the most important part. Get into your room, shut your phone and television, shut the internet, remove all barriers/distraction to your practice.

Commit yourself to it. Practice at least an hour a day, for 20 days. Full focus with no distraction.

It takes an average of 24 hours to be really good at something, with uninterrupted practice. Are you ready to commit?

Just be doing this little, you will be surprised at how good you have become in a very short span of time (less than a month).

That is what it takes to be good at whatever you want to be – simple and easy. But will you?
